Counterfeit Medicines Seized

Guatemalan police have seized a consignment of pseudoephedrine worth around US$308,000 which originated in Bangladesh. Pseudoephedrine is classified as illegal in the country and most other Latin American states because it is used in the manufacture of narcotic methamphetamine. Only pharmaceutical firms with specific import licences are allowed to import pseudoephedrine, but in most cases the substance is substituted.
