Cephalon To Acquire Mepha

US based Cephalon is to acquire Swiss generic drugmaker Mepha AG and its subsidiaries from the family of the late German billionaire Adolf Merckle for US$590mn. The transaction is expected to close in 10-12 weeks upon the completion of certain closing conditions. BMI notes that in August 2009, according to Bloomberg, French drugmaker Sanofi-Aventis was among the potential buyers for Mepha in a bid to enhance its generic drugs portfolio as a result of the upcoming 2011-2013 patent
