Health Insurance Privatisation Should Finally Be Realised

Private health insurance funds look set to gain access to public resources for supplementary medical care, under amendments to Bulgaria's Law on Health Insurance. Long-awaited reforms to the country's healthcare system would see the state-run National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) retain responsibilities for core services, with up to 21 private firms competing for up to BGN2bn (US$1.4bn) in additional resources.
