UAE To Address Drug Prices Through GCC

Drug prices in the UAE have been criticised for being up to 23 times higher than World Health Organisation (WHO)-recommended international prices. Despite being part of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), local news source The National has highlighted that the region as a whole is not maximising its leveraging abilities to lower the cost of bulk drug orders. Worse still, according to the World Health Statistics report published in 2009, UAE residents are paying up to 13.8 times more on generic medicines than the average prices across a selection of emerging markets.
