Patented Drug Market Forecast To Decline
January 2010 | Industry Trend AnalysisItaly's stringent price controls over patented drugs in recent years has stunted market expansion, and the Italian patented drug market recorded a poor compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -1.74% in local currency terms and 0.64% in US dollar terms between 2004 and 2009. BMI's outlook for the country's patented drug market is even less optimistic over the next five years. A CAGR of -5.03% is projected in local currency terms (-7.04% in US dollar terms) from 2009-2014, largely as a result of the impending patent cliff. BMI calculates that patented drug sales in Italy reached a value of EUR15.56bn
