A New Reference Pricing Order Established
January 2010 | Industry Trend AnalysisAs established under the reforms to Spain's Medicines Law in 2006, reimbursed medicines with the same active ingredient and mode of administration, and which have at least one generic competitor, must form a reference pricing group. The reference prices and the groups subject to the system must be updated every year, according to 2006's Royal Decree 1338. The country's reference pricing scheme applies to medicines that have been on the market for over 10 years. Calculating the price involves taking the average of the three cheapest presentations of the medicines.
