First OTC Treatment Of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Available

The MHRA has revealed that the UK will be the first country in the world to offer patients an over-the-counter (OTC) benign prostatic hyperplasia (BHP) treatment, highlighting the country's status as a pioneer in terms of switching drugs from prescription-only to OTC status. BMI believes that the MHRA's approval will be welcomed by German drugmaker Boehringer Ingelheim, the producer of Flomax Relief (tamsulosin). The company filed an application for the reclassification of tamulosin in 2005 following its patent expiry in the UK.
