The number of people with the metabolic disease is forecast to increase from 246mn in 2007 to 380mn in 2025 - a rise of over 50%. BMI notes that the majority of these additional cases will be in emerging markets. This will provide significant commercial opportunities for certain diagnostic companies and drugmakers.
