Regional Drug Regulation Ideal
November 2009 | Industry Trend AnalysisThe Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG) has opined that a regional pharmaceutical regulatory body within the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) would increase access to medicines and allow pharmaceutical firms to grow. BMI believes this would be an ideal situation - and is not surprised that the recommendation has been made by one of the most promising markets in West Africa. However, poor border controls and incredibly weak drug regulations in other ECOWAS states means regional harmonisation remains a long way off.
