Generic Drugs Prices Higher Than In Neighbouring Countries

A study carried out by Swiss pharmaceutical industry and health insurance companies has revealed that the country's citizens pay significantly higher prices for generic medicines than residents in other European countries. The study found that 200 top-selling brand name drugs were 9% more expensive than in France, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Austria and Britain. Representatives of the pharmaceuticals and insurance firms said that the study was carried out to ensure an objective discussion on prices as a part of the larger debate about controlling costs in the Swiss healthcare system.
