Pharmaceutical Exports Down For H109

Jordanian pharmaceutical exports have experienced a 13.0% decline in value during January-July 2009 compared with the same period in 2008. The drop in exports can be partly attributed to exchange rate fluctuations with Jordan's main export partners in the Middle East, as the Jordanian dinar is pegged to the US dollar. However, it is unlikely that export volumes to the major Arab countries will decline in the long run, owing to increasing demand and the preference for Jordanian generic drugs over Israel's offering from its major drugmaker Teva.
