Drug Tendering Process Criticised

South Africa's Aspen Pharmacare has revealed that the current drug tendering process in the country is inadequate and would be more efficient if public-private partnerships were encouraged instead. This statement formed a response to the fact that during the first 18 months of a two-year contract with the government, only 180,000 packs of antiretroviral (ARV) treatment tenofovir disoproxil fumarate has been ordered, despite the state having agreed a tender for 3.6mn packets.
