African Leaders Acknowledge Counterfeit Drug Problem

Former French president Jacques Chirac has been meeting African leaders from former French colonies in a bid to raise awareness over the concerning prevalence of counterfeit pharmaceuticals. Benin's president, Yaya Boni, responded positively, stating that revenue losses worth US$67.4mn were due to counterfeits distorting the drug market. Around US$11mn was lost in potential taxes that would otherwise have been derived from legal medicine
