Generic Drug Consumption Increasing

BMI believes that the Belgian government's encouragement of prescribing generic drugs is beginning to have a real impact on the country's drug market. According to data released by the Belgium's national health insurance scheme, Inami, the share of lower-value generic prescription drugs (in terms of volume) increased to 42.4% of the market in Q109 and 44.1% of the market in Q209, up from 38.7% in the year ending December 2006, 40.5% in the year ending December 2007 and 41.2% in the year ending December 2008.
