Hospira Snaps Up Biosimilar Product As Teva Restructures
October 2009 | Industry Trend AnalysisGlobal specialty pharmaceutical company Hospira has acquired the global rights to Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' biosimilar filgrastim, expanding its presence in the potentially lucrative market for biopharmaceuticals. The purchase sees Hospira gain the rights to the biosimilar product, which was being developed as part of a strategic collaboration with Pliva/Barr Pharmaceuticals (now owned by Teva). Applications for marketing authorisation for the biosimilar were filed in the EU and Australia in Q109.
