PPP Secures Landmark Deal For GSK

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has secured a landmark EUR1.5bn (US$2.25bn) deal with Brazil for the supply of the drugmaker's pneumococcal vaccine Synflorix over the next 10 years. As BMI predicted, GSK's tie-up with Brazil's Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) in August 2009 provided the company with a competitive advantage over rival pneumococcal vaccine manufacturers Wyeth and Sanofi Pasteur.[1] BMI believes that the structure of the deal marks a strong insight into future tie-ups for GSK in emerging markets and is one that has enabled GSK to secure a dominant market segment position in Brazil for the foreseeable
