GSK Expands Potential Vaccine Revenues With Fiocruz Partnership
August 2009 | Industry Trend AnalysisGlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has formed a partnership with Brazil's Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) to develop and manufacture vaccines for 'pressing public health priorities' in Brazil. GSK will transfer technology for the production of its 10-valent conjugate vaccine for paediatric pneumococcal disease Synflorix as well as establishing a research and development (R&D) collaboration programme to develop a vaccine for dengue fever. Fiocruz's manufacturing facility in Manguinhos, established in 2001, is capable of producing around 180mn vaccine doses annually. BMI believes the move will be beneficial for GSK, providing it with a potential competitive advantage over rival pneumococcal vaccine manufacturers Wyeth and Sanofi
