Slow Generic Medicines Market Growth In 2008

Data released by market research firm IMS Health reveals that Spain's generic medicines market grew by 2.7% in 2008, compared with the double-digit growth experienced in the non-patented prescription drug market in 2007 and 2006. Generic pharmaceutical sales in Spain amounted to EUR1.14bn (US$1.63bn) in 2008, equating to 9% of the country's National Health Service (SSN)'s prescription expenditure. In volume terms this amounted to 190mn units of generic drugs.
