GSK To Supply A (H1N1) Vaccine To Various Governments

May 2009 | Industry Trend Analysis

GlaxoSmithKline has received orders for a new candidate A (H1N1) adjuvanted influenza vaccine, from a number of governments aiming to stockpile the vaccine as a precautionary measure. The drugmaker is to manufacture the new vaccine as soon as the virus seed is made available by the World Health Organization (WHO). Marie Paule Kieny, WHO's director of the Initiative for Vaccine Research, has said the seed would be available to manufacturers by the second half of May. The new vaccine will require regulatory approval, but it is expected the process will be quick as the approval will be based on data involving the H5N1 vaccine.
