European Commission Requests Changes In Pharmacy Ownership Laws
September 2008 | Industry NewsThe European Commission (EC) has made a formal request that Germany and Portugal review their laws on the ownership of pharmacies. The requests - which take the form of Reasoned Opinions - come after the EC found that current legislations are in conflict with the freedom of establishment, enshrined in Article 43 of the EC Treaty. Pharmacy ownership laws across Europe are being scrutinised by the EC in an effort to liberalise a sector that is currently heavily regulated in many member states. There are currently seven ongoing infringement
