First Huntington's Disease Drug Approval
August 2008 | Company News AlertPrestwick Pharmaceuticals has received US FDA orphan drug approval for Xenazine (tetrabenazine). Xenazine will be the first drug available in the US for the treatment of Huntington's disease and is indicated for the treatment of the involuntary body movements known as chorea, which affect around 90% of Huntington's patients. Tetrabenazine is already approved in the EU and Canada for treatment of chorea. It is believed to act as a VMAT inhibitor, so promoting early degradation of the neurotransmitter
