There have been widely varying figures of the estimated value and volume of this illegal trade, with Pfizer claiming that it is losing US$2bn a year in sales through counterfeits of its anti-impotence drug Viagra (sildenafil) alone. While it is difficult accurately to measure the true value of the global counterfeit market, what is clear is that there is a significant problem and that the internet is a major source of counterfeit
