Government Looks To Private Sector To Make Up HIV/AIDS Funding Shortfall
June 2008 | Industry NewsJamaica's Ministry of Health and Environment has called on the private sector to support its five-year HIV/AIDS programme, known as HIV and AIDS in Jamaica Strategic Plan 2007-2008. According to Kevin Harvey, co-ordinator of treatment, care and support for persons living with HIV/AIDS, the government has secured around 40% of the projected cost, JMD14bn (US$200mn) over five years, through loans from the World Bank, public funds and a grant from the Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
