Cancer Deaths Under-Recorded
June 2008 | Industry NewsCalling into question the commonly held view that cardiovascular disease is the biggest killer in the UAE, a study in Al Ain district, Abu Dhabi, has found that other causes of death - notably cancer - may be under-recorded. Researchers at the UAE University retrospectively examined the death and hospital records of 300 patients. They found that cancer caused 20% of deaths, followed by injury (19%) and cardiovascular disease (12%), suggesting that official death records give an inaccurate picture of the UAE's disease
