Nexavar To Be Launched In Asia Using Stepwise Approach
June 2008 | Product LaunchDue to the significant burden of liver cancer in Asia, US firm Onyx Pharmaceuticals and German multinational Bayer plan to roll-out Nexavar (sorafenib) in the region using a 'stepwise' approach. Approval in China is expected before the end of 2008, followed by Japanese registration in 2009. Given that majority of global hepatocellular carcinoma cases are in Asia and that the drug is already available in the US and Europe, BMI would advise a 'cluster-bomb' approach, rather than addressing each market in turn. As every drugmaker involved in original research knows, patent terms are limited and the earlier revenues are generated
