GSK Acquires Reliant Pharmaceuticals

UK-based drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline has paid US$1.7bn to acquire privately held US firm Reliant Pharmaceuticals. BMI believes that the move is an attempt by GSK to boost it pipeline for cardiovascular drugs, which is considered relatively weak compared to rivals such as Pfizer.
