First Local ARV Manufacturing

In a milestone for Uganda's fledgling pharmaceutical industry, the first antiretrovirals (ARVs) will be manufactured in the country next month, ending its complete reliance on imported drugs to treat the country's considerable HIV/AIDS epidemic. Two companies - Uganda's Quality Chemicals and India's Cipla - have teamed up to produce ARVs at a new US$16mn plant in the Ugandan capital
