Counterfeit Scam Smashed

Hong Kong's reputation as a centre for counterfeit medicines was reinforced after police uncovered a plot to sell blood products bearing fake registration numbers. The medicines were purportedly made in France and Germany but it though the imitation products originated across the border in mainland China. BMI is dismayed by the latest in a long line of counterfeit controversies to have originated in Hong Kong, but is simultaneously encouraged by newly-released statistics from the Customs and Excise Department, which show that incidences of counterfeiting drugs fell in 2006 compared to the previous year.
