Walmex Launches Low-Price Generics
May 2007 | Product LaunchWal-Mart de México (Walmex), the country's largest hypermarket chain, has launched a line of around 155 generic drugs to be sold at its more than 560 in-store pharmacies, with plans to expand the line to some 250 medicines. The medicines will be priced at a maximum of MXN39 (US$3.50) each as the chain looks to replicate the early success of its US$4 line of generics launched by parent company WalMart in the US market last September, where these drugs already account for around 35% of prescriptions dispensed in the retailer's pharmacies.
