PIASA Challenges Reference Pricing System
May 2007 | Industry NewsThe Pharmaceutical Industry Association of South Africa (PIASA) has called on the government to change the reference pricing system in the country. Presently branded medicines are benchmarked against equivalent medicines in five countries - Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Spain and South Africa - with the lowest prices being chosen. Meanwhile, generic products are set at 40% of the price for the originator product.
