Analgesic Market Large But Poorly Targeted

Mexican patients consume up to MXN17bn (US$1.6bn) per year, or 68mn units, of analgesics per year, according to estimates presented by the Mexican Council for Traumatology and Orthopaedics (CMTO). However, with some 25mn Mexicans estimated to suffer from acute or chronic pain conditions, most self-treat ineffectively, despite the existence of modern and effective medicines on the marketplace. The data highlighted by CMTO underlines the wider issue of continued lost potential in the Mexican market caused by patients not receiving proper diagnoses and buying the wrong medicines, leading to poor health outcomes and higher instances of hospitalization with the associated costs.
