Bioton Buys Biopartners

Creating a small but ambitious biotechnology company, Poland's Bioton has purchased Swiss firm Biopartners for US$78mn. The combined entity will have interests in biosimilars, insulin and small molecules, but BMI expects the latter business to be divested as the company concentrates on the higher margins to be realised in the booming biotech field. We strongly endorse this transaction and expect Bioton/Biopartners to become the model for other enlightened start-ups and new divisions of generic
