Small Market, Strong Growth
March 2007 | BMI ViewBahrain's drug market is relatively small by regional standards, worth only around US$54mn in 2006. Despite this, market growth is expected to be strong in the coming years, in the region of high single-digit figures, resulting in the market topping US$84mn by the end of 2011. Branded medicines will continue to account for the bulk of the pharmaceutical market, although they will slowly lose share to generics, from the present 96%. Over-the-counter (OTC) medicines generate a fraction of the total market value, at 5% in 2006, with the percentage expected to remain static throughout the forecast
