Bird Flu Vaccine MOU Signed With Baxter
February 2007 | Project NewsIndonesia has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with US firm Baxter International to develop a vaccine against avian influenza. Simultaneously, the country has revealed that it has stopped sharing H5N1 bird flu virus samples with foreign laboratories, leading to intense criticism from virologists and public health officials, who believe Indonesia's actions will accelerate the onset and increase the magnitude of a bird flu pandemic. BMI is deeply concerned at the country's stance, which is motivated by maintenance of intellectual property rights.
