GSK Eyes OTC Purchase

UK multinational GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is looking to acquire a Bulgarian over-the-counter (OTC) company to exploit the country's outperforming pharmaceutical market. No offer has been made but GSK is evaluating several targets, according to Jorge Manual, General Manager of GSK's consumer healthcare business for Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Moldova. If a transaction is completed, BMI believes that GSK will reinforce its position as one of the leading healthcare players in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), particularly in the rapidly expanding Bulgarian market. Demonstrating the potential of the sector, we expect Bulgaria's OTC market to reach a valuation of US$252mn by 2011,
