Drug Debts Increasing
January 2007 | Company Finance AlertHospitals and pharmacies in Croatia owe drugmakers, wholesalers and medical device producers a record HRK4bn (US$703mn) and this figure is increasing. Suppliers are calling on the state to repay the debts immediately but the government's plan will not come into effect until the second half of 2007. BMI is deeply concerned at this situation as it discourages firms from conducting business in Croatia, a country that desperately needs foreign direct investment to fully recover from the devastating effects of the Croatian War of Independence.
