Ranbaxy Enters Lucrative Biosimilar Field
February 2007 | Project NewsIndia's Ranbaxy - one of the world's top ten generic drug companies - has entered into an R&D agreement with compatriot firm Zenotech Laboratories for its first biosimilar, granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF; filgrastim), which is used to prevent infections resulting from chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. BMI is encouraged by Ranbaxy's strategy as we view the biosimilar sector as the most promising segment of the pharmaceutical industry in the mid-term. Furthermore, we expect other Indian firms, such as Dr Reddy's, to follow Ranbaxy's lead given the significant upside to be realised.
