Farmacias Ahumada Allies With Top Retailer

In a move that will accelerate consolidation in the Chilean retail pharmacy market, Farmacias Ahumada (FASA) pharmacy group has formed an alliance with one of the country's largest grocers, Distribucion y Servicios (D&S). The deal will see D&S's 70 stand-alone Farmalider pharmacies re-branded under the Farmacias Ahumada banner, widening the pharmacy's network to some 340 stores. The deal represents an end to D&S's insurgent challenge to the country's established big three pharmacy chains, as FASA and rivals Cruz Verde and SalcoBrand will account for well over 90% of the country's retail pharmacy
