Sales Improve For Leading firms, But Dark Clouds on The Horizon

However, operating profits fell by 4.9% to JPY613.8bn (US$5.28bn), according to the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA), as increasing expenditure on research ate into revenues. R&D investment jumped 25.7% to JPY474.5bn (US$4.08bn). BMI believes this outlay is essential, as Japanese firms are suffering from weak pipelines, which industry sources fear are not sufficient to offset the potential losses in the future as key products come off
