Health Research Body Formed

An organisation has been formed to oversee the operations of the UK's two largest public health research organisations in an effort to bolster the country's reputation as a leader in drug development. The Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCHR) - pronounced Oscar - will supervise the activities of the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the National Institute for Health Research, established to run research in the National Health Service (NHS), and control a budget of over GBP1bn (US$1.9bn).
