Drug Subsidy Cut Pushed Forward

To the dismay of drugmakers and patients alike, Hungary's controversial cut in the subsidy enjoyed by pharmaceutical companies for their products will now take place in mid-January rather than at the end of the month. As a consequence, drugmakers now have only eight days to adjust to the new prices instead of the previous 30 days. More worryingly, in BMI's opinion, is that local media quote a figure of HUF57bn (US$299mn) as the total savings to the healthcare budget, which is up significantly from the earlier mentioned HUF50bn
