Antibiotice Suitors Emerge

The first of many companies interested in Romania's largest drugmaker Antibiotice have revealed their intentions to acquire the majority stake held by the state. The highest profile party is Icelandic raider Actavis, which has a strategy of "cherry-picking" small pharmaceutical companies in promising emerging markets. Among the other confirmed bidders are the local investment company SIF Muntenia, which previously held a stake in Sicomed and sold it to Zentiva late last year, and a consortium of investors including Biofarm, a Bucharest-based manufacturer of herbal pharmaceuticals.
