Multinationals Respond To Epidemiological Imperatives
November 2006 | Company Finance AlertThe activities of two international pharmaceutical companies highlight the increasingly 'Western' disease trends driving the Brazilian market. Data from local drug industry association Febrafarma suggest that Anglo-Swedish firm AstraZeneca continues to grow its market share in Brazil. The firm's local unit reported sales of BRL592.8mn (US$277.2mn) for the first nine months of 2006 - a year-on-year rise of 13.8%. This compares to an overall rate of expansion in the market, expressed in local currency terms, of just 5.4%.
