Free Flu Vaccinations Cancelled
November 2006 | Product LaunchBecause the World Health Organisation (WHO) has lowered its risk estimates for an avian influenza epidemic, Latvia's Health Ministry has decided to end free vaccination against flu this year - and reduce the proportion of the population to be vaccinated with a state subsidy from 15% to 5%. BMI views these moves as decidedly short-sighted, because lowering flu vaccine coverage results in higher healthcare costs due to increased absenteeism, hospitalisations and deaths among at-risk people.
