Branded Drug Firms Attack Generics Rules

Innovator drug companies operating in Spain have launched an attack on provisions regarding generic substitution in the new Medicines Law. Article 85 encourages pharmacists to substitute branded drugs with a generic formulations of the same API, wherever available. Branded drug firms have argued that this discriminates against their products, partly in view of weaknesses in Spain's patent laws - leading to a likely decline in R&D
