Weak Outlook For Generics, OTCs In Peru
September 2006 | Five Year ForecastsPeru's prescription drug sales should reflect wider developments. A recent study by regional development agency CAF claimed that prices for new, patented prescription medicines could more than double as a result of the free trade agreement (FTA) with the US. According to the study, the therapeutic segments likely to see the largest rises are treatments for respiratory diseases, diabetes, depression, hypertension and osteoporosis. The expected average price rises of some 111% in these segments in the short term assume that Peru will - as agreed - enforce five-year data exclusivity under the FTA.
