Peru Clarifies Pharmacists' Role
July 2006 | Legal NewsPeru's health ministry has issued new regulations on the role of pharmacists. Law No N° 28173 enshrines the role of dispensers in giving consumer advice, as well as ensuring medicines' quality and safety. Recent legislation approved by the health ministry has also highlighted the fact that prescription drugs must be obtained with an appropriate doctor script, although under-the-counter sales are widespread. Officials estimate that 55% of Peruvians routinely self-medicate with drugs designated as prescription
