Costa Ricans Claim Improper 'Big Pharma' Links
July 2006 | Legal NewsCosta Rican lawmakers have criticised what they allege is undue influence on the country's health minister, María Luisa Ávila, from large pharmaceutical companies. According to a report, Ávila participated in a clinical trial carried out by France's Sanofi-Aventis in 2005 while working for national health service CCSS. The claims also refer to alleged relationships with a number of other, US-based, drug multinationals conducting tests in Costa Rica from 2000 onwards.
