Costa Ricans Claim Improper 'Big Pharma' Links

Costa Rican lawmakers have criticised what they allege is undue influence on the country's health minister, María Luisa Ávila, from large pharmaceutical companies. According to a report, Ávila participated in a clinical trial carried out by France's Sanofi-Aventis in 2005 while working for national health service CCSS. The claims also refer to alleged relationships with a number of other, US-based, drug multinationals conducting tests in Costa Rica from 2000 onwards.
