Uganda Opens ARVs, ACTs Facility
July 2006 | Product LaunchPrivate sector company Quality Chemicals has opened a US$50mn facility in Kampala, Uganda, manufacturing anti-retorviral drugs (ARVs) and artemisinin combiantion therapies (ACTs) for HIV/AIDS and malaria. The GLP and GMP-certifiable plant - a joint venture with Indian generics producer Cipla - is expected to begin full-scale operations in February 2007. Observers have remarked that the project is a significant coup for Uganda, which has been hailed for its efforts to slow the spread of AIDS.
