Venezuela Protests Andean FTA Patent Moves

Venezuela has protested new data exclusivity legislation prompted by US free trade agreements (FTAs) with Andean neighbours Peru, Colombia and Ecuador. Government officials claim that allowing originator firms to block copy drug manufacturers' access to confidential test data will obstruct public access to medicines. Venezuela and regional ally Bolivia have boycotted the FTA
